What makes an artist great? Talent is the first word that springs to mind. Popularity perhaps? Good marketing could be another factor these days, to be sure. Someone can have all the talent in the world but if nobody knows about it, their work won’t be noticed and they won’t become recognised as a great artist. Then again there are many people who are popular and have excellent marketing but show little or no talent at all.

Whether it’s a painting, a song or a building, if it is ascetically pleasing, vibrant, unusual, clever, bold, mesmerising, uplifting or compelling, it has the capacity to invigorate our minds and stir our hearts.

So talent seems to be the key but what is talent? How about the ability to create something that moves, motivates or provokes people to think and feel. Whether it’s a painting, a song or a building, if it is aesthetically pleasing, vibrant, unusual, clever, bold, mesmerising, uplifting or compelling, it has the capacity to invigorate our minds and stir our hearts. When an artist continually and consistently produces such works, then they are on the path to greatness.

So when it comes to acknowledging who is the greatest artist in any given field, it would stand to reason that the one who has been the most consistent, the most continual and the creator of the most moving and universally loved things would be the best … yes? Well no not always, because personal taste comes into play and the passage of time exerts it’s own bias upon the moods of society.

Can anyone truly say who is the greatest composer? Is it Mozart or Bach or Beethoven? How about songwriters? Could it be Lennon and McCartney, Bob Dylan or Rodgers and Hammerstein? And how do you judge the greatest artist, sculptor, fashion designer, poet, author, architect or computer coder? (Trust me, our IT development team insist there is an art to creating code and some reads like “Matrix” poetry while some gives the term “hack” a bad name.)

Imagine an artist who had the talent and the power to bring to life beautiful creations which were so compelling that they made everybody’s heart sing – regardless of their background or gender, their age or their time in history?

But what if there was an artist who could create the most elegant structures, the most pristine symmetries, the most exquisite sights and sounds and the most complex and delightful coding every time they created something? Imagine an artist who had the talent and the power to bring to life beautiful creations which were so compelling that they made everybody’s heart sing – regardless of their background or gender, their age or their time in history? Someone whose intellect can not only design the most complex and intricate functional structures but also infuse delicate nuances of poetic beauty within them for no other reason than the desire to create something pleasing? And what about an artist who can create a masterpiece, which can then, in turn, create its own masterpieces? A creator of creators?! Wouldn’t He be the greatest artist of all time?

So, do you know the ultimate artist?

DNA - God's coding

Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! Genesis 1:31

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Psalm 19:1

So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird—each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:21

Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. Isaiah 40:26

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11

Isn’t it time we gave credit where credit is due? This 5 minute film will awaken your soul and fill you with wonder. Share it with someone today.
